Dirigentløftet was established in 2018 aiming to enchance Norwegian musical life. The initiative is a national effort offering opportunities across all levels, from cultural schools, music programs, choirs, bands, and orchestras, to higher education, professional ensembles, and festivals.

The initiative is initiated by Sparebankstiftelsen DNB and Talent Norway, and the activities are carried out in collaboration with a broad network of partners: Barratt Due Institute of Music, The Youth Orchestra Association of Norway, Dextra Musica, FolkOrg, Band Network Norway, Nordic Wind Festival, Norwegian Academy of Music, Norwegian Band Federation, Norwegian Association of Cultural Schools, Music Norway, Samspill, Youth in Choir, Youth Church Singing, and Youth Music.

Dirigentløftets activities are divided into two, Dirigentforum and an outreach program. Our Outreach program offers activites for children and young people who wish to learn about conducting or for musicians and conductors seeking assistance in their own development. Activities are conducted by organizations and educational institutions and range from Everyone Conducts for young musicians in their own ensembles, regional courses for young conductors, Conducting Labs with elite ensembles, conducting workshops, and Conducting Week to intensive courses for musicians wishing to conduct. There are also professional meeting places such as Conductor Network, Meetings for Conductor Teachers, and the annual Conducting Conference.
